Florida Man Pleads Not Guilty After Murdering 17 Year-Old Whose Music Was Too Loud

A 45 year-old man from Florida has pleaded not guilty to the murder of 17 year-old Jordan Davis - after he was accused of shooting teenager to death in a row over loud music.

The incident occurred after 45 year-old gun collector Michael Dunn arrived at a petrol station with his girlfriend after attending his son’s wedding, and pulled up alongside a car filled with teenagers blaring music.

When Dunn’s girlfriend stepped out of the car to go into the petrol station, Dunn asked the four teenagers to turn their music down - which lead to an exchange of words between the cars. Next thing you know, Dunn allegedly whipped out his handgun and began firing at the car - hitting Davis twice.

“[The music] was loud,” Jacksonville homicide Lt. Rob Schoonover told NBC. "They admitted that. That's not a reason for someone to open fire…Nobody else in that vehicle was struck; it was just our victim [Davis], which was lucky because the vehicle was shot eight or nine times.”

Dunn and his girlfriend then made off and spent the rest of the night in a hotel - but after witnesses recorded his license plate, he was later arrested. He’s now pleaded not guilty to the murder, claiming he acted in self-defence. “His side of the story is he felt threatened and that is the reason he took action,” Schoonover explained.
