AEG Live Promise Hyde Park Improvements In Favour Of Local Residents, Fans, And Bands

Concerts, events, and gigs held at Hyde Park will be louder than previous years, according to AEG Live - following on from last year’s council noise-restriction troubles.

Hyde Park has had a number of problems from both fans and the council recently, with concert-goers at both Madonna and Blur gigs both complaining that the noise-level was too quiet - while Bruce Springsteen and Sir Paul McCartney’s legendary duet had to be cut short to not break curfew laws.

But now, AEG Live, who secured a deal with Hyde Park last year after long-time collaborators Live Nation decided not to renew their contract, have promised louder events that won’t interfere with the residents surrounding the park - after conducting a report and deciding to relocate the stage.

Speaking to Event Industry News, AEG Live Events Director Jim King explained: “[The new setup will be] better for residents, customers and bands. We worked the plan in terms of relocating that stage and orienting it away from the residents because previously it had been firing straight at them. The report is very clear, it shows an improvement whilst still maintaining the off-site limits that we need to uphold, so we’re confident.”

However, despite the improvements, the locals still aren’t happy, and Residents Society of Mayfair and St James chairman Anthony Lorenz has said: “We all know it’s a half-measure and that they want to satisfy Westminster in order to keep the concerts running. “It is incredibly unfair to the people who live there, who might be having a peaceful garden party, while there’s heavy bass music coming from the park.”

What do you think of the new improvements - do you reckon we’ll see a drop in complaints, or will the battle between promoters, fans, bands, residents, and the council rage on in 2013? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
