A Flock Of Seagulls Star Returns With Debut Solo Release

A Flock Of Seagulls star Mike Score will release his debut solo single, ‘All I Wanna Do’, on February 25th 2013.

As one of the 1980s most iconic artists, ‘All I Wanna Do’ finds Score revisiting his electro-pop past on the self-penned single. Score said, “I suppose I could have released something sooner. Twenty-five in between releases is a very long time, but I didn't feel like there was any rush. I had to think it over for a while.”

“I always wanted to release my songs as a solo artist, because when you give a song to your band they sometimes play things differently to what's in your head. It’s always a compromise. This time, I’ve done it my way.”

Mike Score was born in Beverly, Yorkshire on November 5th 1955. A hairdresser by trade, he formed A Flock Of Seagulls with his brother, Ali, in Liverpool in 1979. It was while trying to mimic David Bowies "Ziggy" hairstyle that fellow band member Frank Maudsley placed his hand on the middle of Score's head. With that, the infamous ‘seagull’ cut was born; a style that would become immortalised a decade later by the reference to it in Quentin Tarantino’s film Pulp Fiction.

After several collaborations, including a studio liaison with Be-Bop Deluxe’s Bill Nelson that led to a certain notoriety Stateside, A Flock Of Seagulls signed a major record deal. The band’s third single, ‘I Ran (So Far Away)’, became a worldwide hit in 1982, reaching the US Top Ten. The debut album garnered similar success, winning a Grammy for Best Instrumental.

Further success followed for the group, including the UK Top Ten hit ‘Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You)’, as A Flock Of Seagulls became one of the darlings of MTV. However, personnel problems forced the band to call it a day in 1986.

Since then Mike has combined life as a restaurateur with taking an all-new A Flock of Seagulls line-up on the road.

'All I Wanna Do' is released through Right Track/Universal on 25th February, 2013.
