Reformed English boyband 5ive have claimed that X Factor group One Direction wouldn’t be anywhere near as successful as they are without the help of social media, such as Twitter.
The platinum-selling, chart-topping outfit have returned (funnily enough, as a four piece) in honour of new reality show The Big Reunion, which sees them getting back together alongside a number of the UK’s biggest pop acts of the 90s and early 00s. And, it seems they’ve returned with an attitude - as they’ve already made a dig at their younger counterparts One Direction.
Speaking to Heat, 5ive singer Scott Robinson said: “We didn't have social media back in the day, we didn't have Twitter, Facebook, web chats, nothing - we just turned up to places. Whereas now you can be in the room straight away with just one tweet.”
His bandmate Sean Conlon agreed, and asked Robinson: Would One Direction be as big in America without Twitter? That's the question.” Robinson quickly retorted: “No. They. Wouldn't.”
Conlon then added finally: “I'm not sure either. We had to be there, didn't we? If we weren't there, we weren't there.”
5ive (or maybe they should be called F4ur?!) are set to embark on The Big Reunion tour in May (and December!), alongside their follow comebackers Liberty X, Atomic Kitten, 911, B*Witched, and The Honeyz.
