Calm down, calm down... you’ve got it all wrong. American country star Taylor Swift was legitimately almost impaled by an actual sword belonging to flame-haired singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. Not what you were thinking when you read that headline.
But yes, weird as it may seem, it wasn’t a euphemism - Swift, who is heavily rumoured to be dating Sheeran, was almost hit by the 22 year-old’s Lord of the Ring memorabilia sword whilst on a private jet flying across the US.
Sheeran is currently opening for Swift on her North American Red Tour, and is travelling with her and her team to all of their shows. As any proud sword owner will know, you never let your weapon leave your side - so Sheeran took it on board with him.
After showing Swift his massive sword (wahey!), he laid it to rest on a table, only for it to start flying towards Swift when the plane started taking off. Reacting as quick as he could, Sheeran let out a ‘Noooo!’ and grabbed the sword before it - in his own words - ‘impaled’ Swift.
Speaking to MTV News, Sheeran explained: “It's like a real sword. I got it shipped over, shipped over to Omaha, so I was bringing it back to Nashville and I think [Taylor] and her crew were weirded out by it anyway. They were just like, 'Why does Ed have a sword?'”
He continued: “As the plane started to take off, it was on the table and it went like this [gestures to indicate the plane taking off]. The plane is kind of taking off and it started sliding down and I was like, 'No!' It was just about to impale Taylor.”
Sheeran was given the sword - an actual prop from the Lord of the Rings films - while on a recent trip to New Zealand. Though it’s no longer used to taken down mystical creatures and crazy monsters, it almost came out of retirement!
