Bristol Man Arrested For Driving 'Under The Influence Of Drum And Bass'

Ali G, your reputation as the baddest, meanest junglist in town is on the line this week - as a man in Bristol has been arrested and banned from driving after being caught behind the wheel under the influence of drum and bass!

Committing a crime that would earn you a high-five-/fist-bump from Goldie himself, professional driver Aaron Cogley was pulled over by police in Bristol as he’d been driving dangerously and run two red lights - causing police to believe he was drunk driving.

But, after a breathalyser test turned out a zero result, officers decided he’d still be arrested - and now he’s been banned, with his driving blamed on the influence of the quick-paced dance genre of drum and bass.

Prosecutor Mark Hollier told This is Bristol: “When asked about it he said he was listening to drum and bass and was in a hurry.”

David Miller, who was defending Cogley, described the decision to ban him as ‘stupid’, and claimed that the sound of drum and bass had ‘intoxicated’ him - but Recorder Mr Kevin De Haan QC didn’t agree.

“Intoxicating for some. Very irritating for others,” De Haan stated. “It's always serious, dangerous driving. Even if you only went up to 40mph you were lucky that night. You could have had an accident and been hurt, or worse you could have hurt someone else. Police thought you had taken something.”
