David Bowie’s ’The Next Day’ Returns To YouTube Following Ban - Watch Now

Thursday, 09 May 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

David Bowie’s brand new music video for ‘The Next Day’ has been reuploaded to YouTube, after the site deemed it inappropriate as it had ‘contravened’ their ‘terms of use’.

The super-selling superstar took the music world by storm earlier this year after returning with ‘The Next Day’, his first new album for 10 years. But, after releasing the video for it’s title track - the third single from the record - he created a different kind of storm, due to it’s controversial nature.

The video - directed by Floria Sigismondi - sees Bowie and actors such as Gary Oldman dressed as religious figures, with the singer appearing as a Jesus Christ type character. Considered to be a statement against the church, it also features a fair bit of graphic content, causing YouTube to pull it from their site.

But now, YouTube have reuploaded it, and claimed it was removed ‘mistakenly’. A spokesperson told Billboard:

“With the massive volume of videos on our site, sometimes we make the wrong call. When it's brought to our attention that a video has been removed mistakenly, we act quickly to reinstate it.”
