Daft Punk Reveal Man Once Took Advantage Of Band's Mysterious Identity - To Run Up A Huge Bar Tab!

Thursday, 23 May 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Thomas Bangalter, one half of French house superstars Daft Punk, has revealed how a man once assumed his identity - and used it to rack up a massive bar tab!

The duo are known for their anonymity, often donning robot helmets to protect their identity, and having promo shots which never reveal their real faces. But, they’ve admitted that their secretive style has caused them a bit of grief in the past - with Bangalter telling of a time when someone pretending to be him ‘ran up exorbitant bar tabs at clubs’ in Ibiza!

Speaking to Rolling Stone, the star said:

“One thing I like about the masks is that I don't have people constantly coming up to me and reminding me what I do. It's nice to be able to forget, but there are occasional downsides. Several years ago in Ibiza some guy ran up exorbitant bar tabs at clubs while claiming to be me.”

It’s not the first time they’ve spoken about their mysterious identity leading to awkward situations - earlier in the month, they revealed how a ticket tout tried to sell them tickets to their own show back in London over 10 years ago.
