John Paul Jones Quashes 2014 Led Zeppelin Reunion Plans: 'Next Year Is Full Of Opera For Me'

Monday, 10 June 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Led Zeppelin man John Paul Jones seems to have ruled out a potential reunion next year - after revealing that he’s going to be spending 2014 working on an opera.

Ever since their demise, speculation of a Led Zeppelin return has been rife, and earlier this year singer Robert Plant sent the rock world into a frenzy by simply stating that he had "nothing to do in 2014". Many took the comments as an indication that the band would be reuniting, but now, Jones seems to have shot the idea down - in favour of a thespian affair.

The bassist and keyboard-player talked to Red Carpet News about opera and his own work-in-progress, saying:

“[Opera is] unlike anything else. It's the emotion, the passion, and I'm writing an opera myself so I have to say that. It’s based on ‘The Ghost Sonata’ by August Strindberg, and I’m halfway through the first act!”

He was then asked about Plant’s "nothing to do in 2014" comments, and if a reunion was on the cards - to which he replied:

“2014 is full of opera for me at the moment.”

So, it appears as though a 2014 Led Zeppelin reunion is probably not in the pipeline, although at the end of the day, we’ll never truly know what tricks the guys have got up their sleeves. What do you think of the news? Leave us a comment in the box below!
