With less than a month to go until the Heads Of The Valleys becomes the centre of the rock music world, the anticipation for Planet Rock's Steelhouse Festival is reaching fever pitch. Fancy seeing some of the biggest names in rock perform at one of the most picturesque venues in the world? Stereoboard has a pair of weekend camping tickets up for grabs in our brand new competition below.
Taking place over the weekend of 27 and 28 July 2013, Steelhouse Festival's star studded festival line-up can boast artists with combined record sales of over 40 million albums, making this easily one of the highligts in the live rock music calendar. Saturday night headliners Saxon have sold over 17 million records alone with their most recent album 'Sacrifice' receiving huge critical acclaim.
Both Saxon and Sunday headliner, former Scorpions and UFO guitar supremo Michael Schenker, have just completed sell out UK tours, however neither group included a Welsh date. Saxon frontman Biff Byford commented, “The Planet Rock Steelhouse Festival is our Welsh show. We’re bringing the big production that we’ve used in Europe there, to make it a bit special.”
Latest addition to the line-up Anvil, have received worldwide acclaim following the release of their award winning movie ‘The Story Of Anvil’, which documents the exploits of the Canadian 80’s metal outfit who inspired a generation of rock bands including the likes of Metallica and Anthrax, but who found fame and fortune elusive.
Record crowds are expected at this year’s festival with ticket sales already outselling last year’s event. Co-founder of the Steelhouse Sally Ann Evans, explains, “Attracting world renowned artists to this area has massively helped to increase the profile of the event but this doesn’t diminish our commitment to provide a platform for younger local talent."
The festival has just launched a Battle of the Bands competition which invites music fans to vote for their favourite acts from a selection of local outfits. The winners get the opening spots at this year's festival!
