One of the UK's most famous venues, London’s Hammersmith Apollo, is to receive a multi-million pound renovation.
The work will result in a return of the historic venue's original features and will see the installation of new seating, bars and ventilation. In addition, two marble staircases that are currently hidden beneath the extended stage will be uncovered and restored, alongside the venue being painted in its original colours of green, mauve and black.
AEG Live and ticket agents CTS Eventim, who bought the venue from HMV last year, are behind the project. The venue will re-open in September, although more work will follow through the autumn. Colin Chapple, Chief Operating Officer at AEG Live says:
“As the new owners AEG and CTS Eventim recognised that London deserved more from one of its foremost venues. With a passion for delivering a high standard of comfort to the fan the changes we are making in seating, ventilation and the bar operations will ensure they will enjoy the best music and comedy talent in a wonderful venue capturing the original Art Deco heritage.”

The Hammersmith Apollo first opened its doors in 1932, as The Gaumont Palace - one of UK’s biggest cinemas. The venue has since staged comedy and live music from acts such as David Bowie, Bob Marley and the Beatles.
