Confused US University Mascot Asks Nirvana To Send Homecoming Support Video

Thursday, 25 July 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

An American university mascot has enthusiastically grabbed the wrong end of the stick by asking for a good luck message from long-defunct grunge legends Nirvana.

The mascot emailed their label, Sub Pop, requesting that the band record a message saying: ‘What's up Virginia Tech? This is Nirvana! Just wanted to wish you a Happy Homecoming week and good luck at the game this Saturday. Let's Go Hokies!’ The message was intended for a video collage for the ‘30,000+’ homecoming students this summer.

Unfortunately, Nirvana haven’t really been around since 1994 for obvious reasons. The letter sent to Sub Pop - which you can check out on their Tumblr here - strongly indicates that they really have no idea who Nirvana were. They even write: ‘we’d love to have her in the video’.

Taking the letter in as friendly a fashion as possible, the Sub Pop have bosses have decided they’ll dress up as the band and post the message back - they wrote on the Tumblr page:

“Earlier today in the Sub Pop mailbag, we received an enthusiastic message from a college student running for homecoming queen. She asked for a video affirming support from our one time recording artists, Nirvana, in order to aid her campaign in becoming homecoming queen. We dressed up and obliged.”
