Musician And Journalist Mick Farren Dies Aged 69

Monday, 29 July 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

English musician Mick Farren - who was also a respected journalist and author - has died aged 69 after collapsing on stage on Saturday night.

Farren was the frontman of ‘proto-punk’ outfit the Deviants back in the '70s, and also forged a successful career with pen in hand, writing for the International Times and NME, as well as penning an influential memoir, Give The Anarchist A Cigarette.

Farren collapsed on stage at London’s Borderline on July 27, during the Deviants' set at the Atomic Sunshine Festival. The news of Farren's collapse was broken on his Facebook page.

Facebook user David Leigh wrote:

“Hate to break the news but Mick collapsed on stage mid gig and the rest of the festival has been cancelled. I don't know how the old boy is but he was unconscious on stage when the venue was cleared.”

His death was then confirmed by another post, which read:

“Today was indeed the day. RIP.”

As you can imagine, tributes and messages for Farren and his family have been pouring in. We at Stereoboard send our condolences too - RIP.
