Tuesday, 13 August 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

World-beating boyband One Direction will be making a 'special appearance' at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards, while American stars Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke have also been confirmed to perform.

The awards ceremony takes place at the Barclays Centre in New York on August 25, and will see a small handful of the world's biggest and best singers and artists performing. Cyrus and Thicke join Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Kanye West on the bill.

Meanwhile, One Direction, Cyrus and Thicke are all nominated for a brand new award decided by fans on social networking site Twitter. The 'Best Song of the Summer' award, it'll see 1D's Best Song Ever, Cyrus' We Can't Stop, and Thicke's Pharrell and T.I collab Blurred Lines up against Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding's I Need Your Love, Selena Gomez's Come and Get It and Daft Punk's Get Lucky.

To vote, all you've got to do is tweet #votedaftpunk for Daft Punk, #voteonedirection for One Direction, etc.

Meanwhile, Daft Punk have been rumoured for a surprise performance at the MTV VMAs following their cancelled appearance on The Colbert Report - you can check out our coverage of that here.
