The Calling's Alex Band Releases Statement Following Kidnapping

Tuesday, 20 August 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Alex Band - frontman of recently reformed outfit the Calling - has released a statement following his recent kidnapping, saying that he was ‘left for dead’ by his attackers.

The vocalist was taken and left badly beaten after performing at the Lapeer Days festival, in what was a brutal assault and alleged robbery, and now, he has released a statement confirming details of what exactly happened.

The statement - which comes via US Weekly - reads:

“After Band fought back, he was cornered in the van with the gun to his face, and Band told the assailants, 'Don't kill me as I am about to be a dad'. After more beating, the assailants responded with, 'We don't kill fathers' and then left him for dead at a local railroad track in Lapeer.

“I never thought my unborn child would be my saviour. I am grateful to be alive and I know that I am destined for bringing my music back to my fans.”

It’s been reported that the attackers demanded he hand over his ‘Hollywood money’, and that he was left with multiple injuries, a gash on his face that required 15 stitches, three broken teeth, and a fractured lower spine.

Addressing speculation that drugs may have been involved the statement continued:

“I take my rehabilitation very seriously. I was near death due to this unbelievable situation and the rumours are categorically false.”
