American rock trio Haim have pipped Justin Timberlake to the UK #1, following a desperately close midweek chart battle.
We reported last week that the three sisters - Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim - were just 28 copies behind Justin Timberlake’s latest and second album of the year ‘The 20/20 Experience: 2 of 2’ in the midweek update, having seen their debut album ‘Days Are Gone’ receive a late flurry of sales.
Now, in what the Official Chart Company has described as the ‘closest race of the year’, Haim have overtaken Timberlake to top the UK charts at the first time of asking - and to deny Timberlake his fourth consecutive UK #1.
Haim’s ‘Days Are Gone’ finished a tidy 2,100 copies ahead of Timberlake’s fourth LP, which followed-up the first part of ‘The 20/20 Experience’ that topped the UK charts back in March. That record is still floating in the UK charts at #33, and the two separate collections will see Timberlake hitting the UK for a series of massive gigs in spring next year.
