Friday, 18 October 2013 Written by Huw Baines

Georgia Ruth has become the third winner of the prestigious Welsh Music Prize.

Hailing from Aberystwyth, Ruth claimed the accolade for her debut album, 'Week Of Pines', which was released in May and features songs in both Welsh and English. Previous winners of the prize include Neon Neon and Future of the Left.

Also nominated were Neon Neon, Little Arrow, Winter Villains, Zervas & Pepper, Sweet Baboo, Fist Of The First Man, Laurence Made Me Cry, Euros Childs, Metabeats, Race Horses and Trwbador.

John Rostron, chief executive of the Welsh Music Foundation and co-founder of the Welsh Music Prize, alongside Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens, said:

“I am thrilled for Georgia. This record has introduced her to a brand new audience outside of Wales and this win comes at a timely moment as she will be showcasing to an international audience at Womex which arrives in Wales next week. I know she was excited to be looking ahead to that opportunity as a Welsh Music Nominee but to be heading towards next week as a winner must be a delight and is a real boost for her team and record label."
