Lou Reed Cause Of Death Confirmed

Monday, 28 October 2013 Written by Jon Stickler

It has been confirmed that Lou Reed died as a result of complications from an emergency liver transplant he received earlier this year.

The hugely influential singer, songwriter and guitarist Lewis Allen "Lou" Reed died yesterday, October 27. He was 71.

Reed received a transplant after suffering chronic liver failure back in April. During a career that spanned over 50 years, Reed was always open about his past with alcohol and drugs, often using his life experiences to influence his deeply personal songwriting.

Reed was mostly recognised for his work as singer, songwriter and guitarist with Velvet Underground. He also forged a successful solo career after departing the group in 1970. A special Lou Reed tribute will be aired tonight from 6pm (GMT) on the Classic Rock Magazine Show on TeamRock Radio.
