Drake's Next Move: Out With The New, In With The New

Wednesday, 11 December 2013 Written by Rick Martin

Drake released his latest album, ‘Nothing Was The Same’, back in September, but one of the busiest men in rap is set to furnish fans with a selection of new songs before the year is out.

The tracks are likely to have been recorded around the sessions for that album, while the release of a high-profile remix is also on the cards. "Not an EP, but maybe a blog thing like how I did Versace, The Motion, all those in one night," Drake told Vibe of the release, referencing a previous shot of material unveiled on his blog, October’s Very Own. "I’ll probably do Trophies and three or four other records."

He isn’t planning to slow down in 2014 either, with tickets to Drake’s UK tour available now. So, with all that in mind, here's everything else we know about the new material.

It'll (Probably) Be Wu-Flavoured

It’s expected that a new version of Wu-Tang Forever, featuring verses from Wu-Tang members, will be part of this crop, or at least Drake has said ‘hopes’ that will be the case. Confirming the new material, Vibe also speculated that a collaboration with DJ Dahi could be part of this batch of tracks. He said: "There was another beat that they were actually working on that I did. It would've sounded totally different from the album, it was a little more uptempo."

It May Well Appear On His Blog First

He’s done it before, he can do it again. In June, The Motion (featuring Sampha), Jodeci Freestyle (featuring J Cole), Versace, a Migos song he featured on, plus Over Here, a track by PARTYNEXTDOOR, all popped up online. It was a generous haul for fans considering that his new album was only a few months off.

It's Likely To Be In The Vein Of 'Nothing Was The Same'

While some fans are getting all in a tizz about new material on the horizon, most are still buzzing from the release of ‘Nothing Was The Same’ three months ago. The rapper’s third album, which included production from Noah Shebib, Boi-1da, Mike Zombie, Majid Jordan and nineteen85 and featured Jay Z, Big Sean, 2 Chainz and Sampha, hit the top spot in the US Billboard 200 and also scored a #2 position in the UK albums chart.

Speaking to GQ earlier this year, Drake seemed set on seeing this vein of inspiration through to the end: "This is my fucking moment to say if I wanted to rap all the time, really rap, I would, but I also love to make music. I'll do this for you right now. But it's for me, too. It's my story...I'm trying to get back to that kid in the basement. To say what he has to say. And I'm trying to make it last."
