Voodoo Six To Guest With The Winery Dogs On July UK Shows

Tuesday, 24 June 2014 Written by Jon Stickler

Voodoo Six will guest with the Winery Dogs on two UK shows in July.

The British hard rockers, who released 'Songs To Invade Countries To' in 2013, also play Sonisphere Festival on July 5, the day headlined by Iron Maiden, who V6 toured Europe with last Spring,

Speaking about the new shows, Voodoo Six's Tony Newton says:

“When we got the call to be special guests on The Winery Dogs shows, we were all very excited. We all really like the band – great players and great songs, too. Mike (Portnoy) has been a firm supporter of Voodoo Six since we played some shows with Adrenaline Mob a while ago, so it will be great to see him again. I also have a Billy Sheehan signature Yamaha bass, so I might just take it along to get it signed!!”

The Winery Dogs Upcoming Tour Dates are as follows

Mon July 07 2014 - WOLVERHAMPTON Slade Rooms
Tue July 08 2014 - LONDON Underworld

They may be a power trio featuring some of the most respected and well travelled musicians on the block, but the time has come to surgically remove the 'supergroup' label from the Winery Dogs' back. This is no flash-in-the-pan vanity project for Mike Portnoy, Billy Sheehan and Richie Kotzen and with two superb albums of soulful, melodic and instrumentally adventurous hard rock under their belts, as well as hundreds of live shows, they are every bit the bona fide band.

Photo: Jamel Toppin If releasing two albums of exhilarating hard rock qualifies as a hot streak, then the Winery Dogs are now a rolling ball of fire and flame. It's a confident title but the trio do it justice on their second album, spreading their colourful wings without sacrificing the cocktail of virtuoso chops and hooks that ignited their widely-lauded debut. For young rock bands looking to reinvigorate an old form - this is how you do it.

When virtuoso musicians record together, the outcome is often a technically decadent, self-indulgent snooze fest. Not so in the case of the marvellously named Winery Dogs, a supergroup who emphasise high calibre songwriting over showboating.
