AC/DC Announce Malcolm Young's Retirement And December Release For New Album

Wednesday, 24 September 2014 Written by Huw Baines

AC/DC have confirmed the release of a new album, ‘Rock Or Bust’, and that guitarist Malcolm Young will not be returning to the band due to illness.

The record, the first in the band’s history not to feature Young, is the follow up to ‘Black Ice’ and was captured at Warehouse Studios in Vancouver with producer Brendan O’Brien. It's out on December 1 and will be followed by a world tour.

AC/DC confirmed earlier this year that Young would sit out the recording sessions and have now announced his retirement after 41 years at the heart of the band. In a statement, they confirmed that Stevie Young stepped in for 'Rock Or Bust' and will do so for the forthcoming tour:

“Unfortunately, due to the nature of Malcolm’s condition, he will not be returning to the band.  AC/DC will undertake a world tour in support of ‘Rock or Bust’ in 2015. Stevie Young, nephew of founding members Angus and Malcolm Young, plays rhythm guitar on 'Rock or Bust' and will accompany the band on tour.”
