The jazz vocalist, who retired from touring in 2011, died at her home in Pioneertown, California after a long illness, her manager and publicist Devra Hall Levy confirmed to the Associated Press.
Born in Chillicothe, Ohio in 1937, Wilson released her first album, 'Like in Love', in 1960 and during the following decades solidified her reputation as a singer, songwriter, actress and performer. Preferring the term “song stylist”, she primarily focused on jazz, R&B, ballads and torch songs, and hosted The Nancy Wilson Show, an Emmy-winning variety series, on NBC in the late '60s.
During her illustrious career, more than 30 of her albums landed in the Billboard charts, and she was best known for her signature version of Guess Who I Saw Today, as well as hits (You Don’t Know) How Glad I Am, and Save Your Love For Me. She also collaborated with many of the jazz greats such as Nat King Cole, Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, and Billy Eckstein.
