Renowned for their chaotic live shows and frantic take on Aussie punk, Amyl and the Sniffers have quickly made a name for themselves. Led by the formidable Amy Taylor, this raucous rock band have turned heads globally, and their notoriety will only continue to grow thanks to ‘Comfort To Me’, a second album that delivers about as much raw energy as the average listener can take.

Rather than surrender to the confinements of lockdown, Amyl and the Sniffers poured a torrent of enthusiasm into recording ‘Comfort To Me’. Taylor has said that the pause on touring and lockdown rewired her brain. “My way of thinking about the world completely changed,” she admitted.

Entering the studio with producer Dan Luscombe, ‘Comfort To Me’ evolved over the course of a year. Fuelled by that reckless spirit needing an outlet, each track just aches to be played to a hungry crowd, and undoubtedly this is an LP that will truly come alive in a ramped up, packed-out venue.

Yet while it whets our appetite for that outpouring, it is also an undeniably gritty, snarling punk triumph on its own terms. Taylor’s vocals clamber and rasp towards their highest points as though she’s her own personal exorcist out to dredge it all up and satisfy the demands of the microphone stand. Lyrically, Taylor also proves she is a force to be reckoned with. On Choices and Capital, the vocalist takes bitter swipes at the world at large, underpinning chaos with weighted words.

Opening with the razor sharp single Guided by Angels, and charging forward onto fitting track Freaks to the Front, each subsequent song seems to outdo its predecessor. ‘Comfort To Me’ blazes through with glorious passion, sparkling with rebellious lustre. Amyl and the Sniffers have found a new sort of fury.
