Shed Seven Detail New Album 'A Matter Of Time', Confirm UK Tour For October

Thursday, 13 July 2023 Written by Laura Johnson

Shed Seven will return with a new album early next year.

'A Matter Of Time', the follow-up to 2017's 'Instant Pleasures', is due for release on January 12 through Cooking Vinyl. The record was produced by Grammy Award-winner Youth, aka Martin Glover, at El Mirador Studios in Andalucia, Spain. Mixing was handled by Cenzo Townshend.

It sees the band's core members — vocalist Rick Witter, guitarist Paul Banks and bassist Tom Gladwin  — joined by drummer Rob ‘Maxi’ Maxfield (Audioweb) and keyboardist Tim Willis (Ian Brown). Banks said:

“For this album, we took a nostalgic journey back to our roots, immersing ourselves in the records and sounds that ignited our passion for songwriting at the tender age of 12. The influences of bands like The Smiths, R.E.M., U2, Simple Minds, The Cure, and Duran Duran permeate every note, making it a heartfelt homage to those cherished times. It embodies the essence of rebirth, empowering individuals to embrace their true selves without inhibition. With utmost conviction, we declare this as the pinnacle of our musical endeavours - the record we've always yearned to create."

As a preview, they've shared the first single, Kissing California, an uplifting pop-rock track that feels familiar yet fresh. Head below to check it out, alongside the record's artwork and tracklist, which features collaborations with Peter Doherty, Laura McClure, and Rowetta.

The York band will support their new album with a UK tour this October, which will call in Cardiff, London, Nottingham, Stoke, Wolverhampton, Glasgow, Middlesbrough and Manchester. Tickets go on general sale at 9.30am next Friday (July 21).

Prior to their autumn shows, Shed Seven will headline Sounds Of The City Leeds on July 15, which they'll warm up for with shows in Warrington and Coventry. They'll also play Holmfirth's Picturedome and Party At The Palace in Linlithgow in August.
