Bruce Springsteen Announces 'Nebraska '82: Expanded Edition'

Friday, 05 September 2025 Written by Jon Stickler

Bruce Springsteen has announced a deluxe edition of his 1982 landmark album 'Nebraska'.

The four-LP/four-CD box set, titled 'Nebraska '82: Expanded Edition', is set to arrive on October 17 via Sony Music and includes The E Street Band's long-rumoured 'Electric Nebraska' sessions and solo outtakes from the era.

'Electric Nebraska' is the unofficial title for a collection of songs Springsteen and the E Street Band recorded together in 1982, made up of material from raw demos he had for the follow-up to 1980's 'The River'. However, The Boss decided he liked the original versions better, so he ditched the full-band recordings and went with a set of his stripped back demos and named it 'Nebraska'.

Springsteen didn't use all the songs, some were saved for his next album, 1984's 'Born In The U.S.A.' One of those is the title track, which features Springsteen backed by Max Weinberg and Garry Tallent, and you can check out the bare bones 'Electric Nebraska' version below.

"We threw out the keyboards and played basically as a three-piece," Springsteen said. "It was kinda like punk rockabilly. We were trying to bring ‘Nebraska’ into the electric world."

The physical versions of the collection will also include a newly shot live band performance of 'Nebraska' on Blu-Ray, recently filmed at New Jersey's Count Basie Theatre by director Thom Zimny.

"I think in playing these songs again to be filmed, their weight impressed upon me," continued Springsteen. "I’ve written a lot of other narrative records, but there's just something about that batch of songs on 'Nebraska' that holds some sort of magic."

A week after the release of 'Nebraska '82: Expanded Edition', the film Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere will hit the big screen on October 24. Directed by Scott Cooper and adapted from Warren Zanes' book, Deliver Me From Nowhere, the feature-length looks into Springsteen's creative process and personal experiences behind the making of 'Nebraska'. It features Jeremy Allen White as Springsteen and Jeremy Strong as his long-time manager and producer, Jon Landau, along with Stephen Graham, Odessa Young, Paul Walter Hauser, Gaby Hoffman, Marc Maron and David Krumholtz.

Springsteen recently featured on a new version of Bon Jovi's song Hollow Man, taken from the upcoming reimagined edition of the Grammy-winning New Jersey rockers' 2024 album 'Forever', due out on October 24.

Earlier this year, he released 'Tracks II: The Lost Albums', a collection of seven previously unheard Springsteen records, 'Twilight Hours', 'Perfect World', 'Streets of Philadelphia Sessions', 'Faithless', 'Somewhere North of Nashville' 'Inyo' and 'LA Garage Sessions ’83.'

The veteran singer-songwriter and The E Street Band digitally released the live EP 'Land of Hope & Dreams' in May, featuring songs from their show at Manchester's Co-Op Live arena on May 14, the first night of their 2025 European tour.

'Letter To You', his latest album of original material, arrived in 2020, followed by 2022's 'Only The Strong Survive', a collection of soul classics.
