Soft Cell have shared a new single, Out Come The Freaks.
Serving up a club-ready aesthetic, the punchy, electro-pop track features acclaimed American singer Nona Hendryx and marks the first preview of the group's final album, 'Danceteria', due out through Republic of Music this summer, though a release date is still to be confirmed.
The follow-up to 2022's '*Happiness Not Included' and its two companion records was completed by frontman Marc Almond with instrumentalist and producer Dave Ball prior to his death last October. Commenting on the record last year, Almond said:
"I have loved working on this album. Dave’s music has once again inspired me to write a set of lyrics that this time reflect a time in my life in New York in the early 80s, at a particular creative and pivotal time of changes in my personal life and the city itself. Some of the songs are very personal. Soft Cell have always had a strong connection to New York, recording our first three albums there, and taking inspiration from its’ underground and culture, my Soft Cell lyrics have often looked at America through British eyes."
Soft Cell are set to release a limited 12" white vinyl featuring three mixes of the title track of the new album for Record Store Day on April 18. Head here to check out a full list of Record Store Day releases.
They'll also join Alison Moyet as support for The Human League on The Generations Tour in North America this summer. Tickets are on sale now.
Since their last album, Soft Cell have put out several reissues of previous albums, as well as remixed tracks and a live album.
