Citizen have returned with details of their sixth studio album.
The Toledo, Ohio-based rockers will release 'Halcyon Blues' through Run For Cover Records on August 7, following 2023's 'Calling The Dogs'. Recorded by vocalist Mat Kerekes with mixing by Tom Lord-Alge, whose credits include U2, Weezer and Blink-182, the album brings back the urgent, energetic feel of the band's early music. Guitarist Nick Hamm said:
"A lot of bands try to do anything they can to be the hottest thing of the moment and we’ve just never operated like that. We don't think in moments, or months, or record cycles. Some bands end up getting sick of whatever walls they exist in, but I see Citizen as this long term creative project where there’s always somewhere new to go, and that’s kept me exhilarated through all these years. And we’ve trusted that people who like our band will want to come along. A lot of people grew with us and we’re really thankful for that."
Alongside the announcement, the five-piece have shared the record's lead single, Highs and Lows, which builds from a dark, pulsating bassline into a bright, anthemic chorus.
They'll support the LP with a North American tour this summer, UK and European shows in the autumn, and Australian and New Zealand dates early in 2027. Tickets for the UK dates go on general sale at 10am on Thursday (April 30).
Since the band's last album, Citizen also released an expanded 10th anniversary edition of 2015's 'Everybody Is Going to Heaven' and Kerekes put out his fourth solo LP, 'To Dream Of Something Wicked', in 2024.
