Laura Veirs has announced a new album.
The Portland, Oregon-based artist will release 'Temple Songs' through her Raven Marching Band Records label on August 14, following 2023's 'Phone Orphans' and two live records, 'Laura Veirs and Her Band (Live In Brooklyn)' and 'Laura Veirs and the Choir Who Couldn't Say (Live In Angouleme)', released in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
Produced and recorded herself with two microphones and a laptop in her newly built backyard studio, the project also marks the singer-songwriter's first album she has written, arranged and performed entirely on her own, playing guitar, bass, drums, tambourine, percussion, and vocals, with the only outside contribution coming from a secret special guest on saxophone.
"I needed to make this album to connect more deeply with my taste, aesthetics, and confidence. I wrestled with a lot of doubt,” Veirs said. "But there were many happy accidents and eventually I found a flow—seeing the studio again, for the first time since my 20s, as a private place for exploration."
Alongside the announcement, the singer-songwriter has shared the album's lead single, Flying Into Darkness, a melodic acoustic folk-pop song that blends bright and darker passages, beginning off light and hopeful but with a feeling of melancholy running through it.
Veirs explained: “This song comes from a feeling of being existentially unmoored in a dark, uncertain moment. I kept circling the same questions: how do I stay grounded? How do I feel like I’m doing some real good, nudging things–even slightly–in a better direction?
Head below to view the song's video, which Veirs shot during a tour in France. "At its core, the song wrestles with restlessness–how hard it is to find true rest when the world keeps us in a constant state of unease. There’s also a thread of ‘No Masters’ running through it, which shows up across the album. I’m reaching for a world shaped more by freedom and love than by greed and fear, and all the ways those forces show up in daily life: hollow work, vast inequality, systems that feel too big to push against, and the steady backdrop of violence and conflict."
Veirs will tour the UK and Ireland in September, followed by US dates in the fall, with Karl Blau supporting on all dates. Tickets are on sale now.
