It’s that man again. The man who can’t seem to stay out of the music news at the moment, Van Morrison. In an update on the, he’s the daddy, he’s not the daddy story, sources have said that the legendary songwriter has now launched legal proceedings against the newspaper that reported that he had fathered a child.

Morrison could be labelled as being one of the most gifted songwriters in modern music. Going way back to his work with Belfast garage rockers Them, to the folksy jazz style of great album ‘Astral Weeks’, it can’t be argued that the man has crafted some stunning work. Still recording as well as touring the singer is recognised for his frequent hostile manner. As many previous collaborators could probably tell you, Van Morrison is not a man to be crossed lightly.

Which makes all of last week’s events quite strange. Here’s the catch-up bit. A posting on the singer’s website stated that Van Morrison, 64, had become father to another child. The mother was allegedly Gigi Lee, a Texan woman associated with Morrrison’s production crew. Following the widely reported news, Van Morrison issued a statement claiming that his website had been victim to a hacker and denied the posting on the website stating he had fathered the child. After the singer’s statement, more reports followed in the Mail On Sunday newspaper.

The newspaper reported on January 3rd that the Northern Irish singer had been in a relationship with Gigi Lee for quite a while. Lee is part of Morrison's publishing and production team and Morrison reacted furiously at the reports.

In a statement he said: "In view of an article appearing in today's (January 3rd) Mail On Sunday I am reluctantly compelled to make this short statement. I have instructed my solicitors to institute immediately proceedings against the Mail On Sunday and will take all appropriate action to prevent repetition of these allegations. There is no truth in the suggestion that I have recently become a father."

The singer is married and as a result has launched legal proceedings against the Mail On Sunday.
