Irish rock icons U2 have announced details about their follow up to ‘No Line On The Horizon’.
Over the last ten years U2 have regained their title as one of the world’s biggest rock bands. Their comeback album in 2000, ‘All That You Cant Leave Behind’, smashed into the charts all over the world re-claiming the number one spot that, in previous years, the band had been so familiar with.
However as of recently the band could be said to have lost their creativity with last year’s album ‘No Line On The Horizon’ seeming to be a middle-of-the-road effort. The album unsuprisingly became their least successful album in a decade.
Regardless of the recent slip of form, the band’s subsequent tour still packed in the crowds. At the recent ‘Hope For Haiti’ concert on Friday night (January 22nd), where the band performed, Bono and the Edge spoke of releasing a single with hip-hop superstar Jay-Z.
This wont be the only new material that the band will be working on however. With ever-present beanie hat firmly planted on head, The Edge told Entertainment Weekly that the band are back in the studio. “We are working on a lot of new songs. Some of them are really really happy We’re convinced that we have something really special.”
Even with the tight schedule of their world tour, the band have managed to find time to put together some tracks during the short breaks inbetween continents.
Describing the new material further, The Edge promised fans a varied return. "We are experimenting with a lot of different arrangements, and electronic is one of the things we are playing with," he explained. "But there are other songs that are very traditional, almost folk. In some ways, that's the thing we haven't figured out yet, is where this album is going to end up."
The Edge and Bono are due to appear on a forthcoming single with Jay-Z.
