Rage Against The Machine Free Show: 'Details Imminent'

After the victory of gaining the 2009 UK Christmas number one, giants of rap metal Rage Against The Machine are currently in talks about confirming an enormous free show in the UK.

It has always been a tradition in British pop music for there to be a rich competition for the prestigious Christmas Number One spot. In the past, acts such as Slade, Wizzard, The Pogues, Sir Paul McCartney and more have all enjoyed huge success in the festive season.

However during recent years the UK has seen Simon Cowell rule the festive chart enjoying a near monopoly of the number one slot year-in year-out. The winner of talent show ‘The X Factor’ has always released their single the week before December 25th, turning the competition into a one horse race.

With the british public opting to voice their opinion on this trend, a Facebook campaign was set up last year pushing Rage Against The Machine’s anthemic track ‘Killing In The Name’ into the race to top the charts. The public acted and after fighting off competition from last year’s X Factor winner Joe McElderry, Rage Against The Machine historically won the festive countdown. What a great sight it was to see ‘Killing In The Name’ burst out onto the nation’s television screens as Top Of The Pops hosted a uniquely subversive pop moment during the Christmas Day show.

The band celebrated the victory, donated any royalties to charity and to commemorate the historic upset promised a free show somehwere in the UK. Now, promoter Andy Copping has claimed via a message on Twitter that details of such a show are imminent. The Live Nation promoter said: "There should be news regarding the free Rage Against The Machine gig late next week..."

"As promised we will play a free concert in the UK in celebration of this incredible upset victory over the heavily favoured X Factor single" de la Rocha confirmed.
