The Who’s Future in Doubt After Townshend’s Tinnitus Returns

Monday, 22 February 2010 Written by Matt Hamm

Rock legend Pete Townshend has revealed that The Who’s future is in doubt after his troubling tinnitus returns.

The 64 year old endures painful ringing and buzzing due to years of exposure to high volume. Talking to Rolling Stone magazine, the guitarist quite simply said that if the hearing problems continue, then The Who are “finished”.

Townshend said: “If my hearing is going to be a problem, we’re not delaying shows, we’re finished...I can’t really see any way around the issue”.

Those of you with tickets to the band’s Teenage Cancer Trust gig at London’s Albert Hall on March 30th, don’t fret, the guitarist will be testing a new in-ear monitoring system during the show, to help remedy the problem.
