Johnny Marr Gets Guitar Back After Theft

Smiths legend Johnny Marr has finally been reunited with the guitar stolen from him ten years ago.

The 1964 Gibson SG was half-inched from the backstage area of King Cross’ Scala back in 2000 by fan Steven White. White admitted taking the instrument after police found it in his home, after an anonymous tip off.

The guitar thief claimed that he had been taking anti-depressants at the time, but was “disgusted” with himself. Sentenced to 200 hours community service, White told the court “There’s a victim here. I can’t reconcile myself with the behaviour of that night”.

Marr, currently with The Cribs, is touring New Zealand and is said to be “ecstatic” to have the guitar back in his possession. Unfortunately, the guitar wasn’t a liberty to comment.
