Controlled by The Football Association (FA), the England national football team has represented England in international football since the first international match in 1872.

England is the joint oldest national team in football, alongside Scotland, who they played in the world's first ever international football match in 1872. Their home ground is Wembley Stadium in London.

They have qualified for the FIFA World Cup finals 16 times, and are one of eight countries to have won the World Cup, being crowned winners in 1966, at a tournament the country also hosted. England have never won the UEFA European Championships, though they were runners-up in 2020.
