Kranium, born Kemar Donaldson, is a Jamaican dancehall and reggae singer based in New York.
After emigrating to Florida at age 12, Donaldson spent time with his uncle, a former dancehall star known as Screwdriver who recorded a string of catchily controversial Jamaican hits during the 1980s. After graduating from Screwdriver’s music academy, the young singer relocated to Queens, New York where he gravitated to the reggae scene that was thriving amongst the large Caribbean population in New York City’s outer boroughs. That’s where he recorded his breakout hit Nobody Has to Know, and continued to have a string of hit singles within the subculture, DJs playing his hot tracks such as Lifestyle and History, in clubs.
In 2013 he joined the Frequent Flyers label and management team and his music began to make waves internationally. Nobody Has To Know has seen huge exposure, including a perofrmance by Drake, Amber Rose dancing to it on Instagram, 5 million plays on Soundcloud and 10 million on YouTube. It catapulted Kranium’s career from the NY underground dancehall scene to performing on BET and now becoming a signee to Atlantic Records, the same renowned label that brought the chart-topping Grammy-winning Jamaican dancehall star Sean Paul to a worldwide audience.
Kranium will play three UK shows this autumn. Catch him live by checking out the tour dates and concert ticket information below on Stereoboard.
