The Colorado Avalanche are an American ice hockey team hailing from Denver, Colorado. Founded in 1972, the team was originally based in Quebec, but moved to Colorado in 1995, where it has remained ever since.

Part of the NHL's Western Conference, in which they compete in the Central Division, The Avalanche have seen a fair amount of success since they relocated - their very first season saw them go all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals and win, a year which saw them take home every bit of silverware they could, including the President's Trophy.

After repeating that exact feat in the 2000/01 season, The Avalanche would dwindle after the'04/'05 lockout, failing to qualify for the post-season for three seasons in a row from '11 to '13.
