The Dears are expected to release their new album by the end of the Summer. The Canadian rockers, whose critically acclaimed previous album 2004's 'No Cities Left' gave the band a brief glimpse of success in the UK, will release 'Gang of Losers' at the end of August.
Frontman Murray Lightburn said of the album, "As cliched as this may sound, it's by far the 'best work we've ever done." "It is somewhat of a stripped down, raw affair. There is French horn in two songs and saxophone in another. Though there is some Mellotron-ny stuff, there are no real violins, violas or cellos. I guess that means that we're no longer 'orchestral.'" The band will are expected to tour again later this year, but will be performing new material from the forthcoming album at the Tulip Festival in Ottawa this month. Fairburn is looking forward to the event, he said: "We've been trying out the new stuff in rehearsal and though the first couple of times were pretty brutal, we are finally starting to sound like a band again." As for the albums title, he had this to add, "The album's title comes from a running joke that Benvie started a couple of years ago while we were on tour. Then after thinking about the phrase a lot more, it got all serious and became a bit of metaphor for this whole...thing." The track listing for "Gang of Losers" is as follows. 01. Sinthtro 02. Ticket To Immortality 03. Death Or Life We Want You 04. Hate Then Love 05. There Goes My Outfit 06. Bandwagoneers 07. Fear Made The World Go 'Round 08. You And I Are A Gang Of Losers 09. Whites Only Party 10. Ballad Of Humankindness 11. I Fell Deep 12. Find Our Way To Freedom The Dears will be hitting the UK for the V Festival in Chelmsford and Stafford in August. The band are premiering some tracks from the new album on their myspace page from this weekend. http://www.myspace.com/thedears
