Lady Gaga Triumphs At MTV VMA's, Stirs Controversy With Meat Dress

Lady Gaga was victorious at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards, winning awards in eight categories. Appearing in various attention-grabbing outfits, the singer picked up seven awards for her Number One single ‘Bad Romance’, as well as an award for ‘Telephone’, her duet with R&B superstar Beyonce.
Known for her controversial dress sense and heralded by many as a self-made ‘fashion icon’, Gaga held true to form with a number of dramatic and larger than life costume changes. One outfit in particular caused controversy for Gaga, who accepted an award wearing a dress made entirely out of raw meat, including a meat purse and shoes. This follows on from a much-criticised appearance in a Japanese magazine last month wearing a similar ensemble.
The 24-year old songwriter took the awards as an opportunity to confirm that her new album would be called ‘Born This Way’, saying: "The message, the melodies, the direction, the meaning, what it will mean to my fans and what it will mean to me in my own life – it's utter liberation."
Florence and the Machine and Muse were the only British winners of the evening, picking up awards for Best Art direction and Best SFX respectively.
The ceremony also featured performances from Paramore, Kanye West, Eminem, Usher, Justin Beiber and Taylor Swift.
