American Idol boy-wonder Adam Lambert has promised to obey Malaysian government rules that forbid the flamboyant rocker from wearing revealing clothes or kissing onstage during a concert this week.
Lambert, who was runner-up in the 2009 season of American Idol announced on Twitter that he will modify his show when he performs in the Muslim-centred Kuala Lumpur this Thursday.
Writing on Monday evening, Lambert declared: “While I don't believe that my glamnation tour is in any way offensive I have agreed to make a few minor adjustments out of respect for the Malaysian government. Looking forward to a fun show.”
The key opposition to Lambert's planned concert has surfaced in the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, who have been known to criticise Western pop artists who they believe to be bad moral and cultural inspirations to youngsters. They have protested against performances from Gwen Stefani and Avril Lavigne (among others) in the past. The party is said to have claimed that Lambert was openly promoting the gay lifestyle.
However the singer decided to court controversy, continuing on Twitter to say that his show "promotes living ANY lifestyle that includes the freedom to seek love and intimacy. Gay, straight, bi, young or old. It's all inclusive."
“Plus, what's THE gay lifestyle? There isnt just one. There are so many different kinds of gay people. We have a variety of different lifestyles. There's not only one lifestyle lived by straight folks. Generalizing....” he declared in his extended Twitter rant.
Adam Lambert will be touring the UK this November. Lambert will play the following UK dates:
November 2010
26th O2 Academy2, Birmingham
27th O2 Academy2, Manchester
28th O2 ABC, Glasgow
29th O2 Shepherds Bush Empire, London
