Kings Of Leon's Caleb Followill Apologises For His ‘Kurt Cobain Moment’

Wednesday, 13 October 2010 Written by James Conlon

Kings Of Leon frontman Caleb Followill has apologised for his band’s attitude and performance at last year's Reading Festival. The band headlined the event in 2009 in an unusually muted fashion, before proceeding to criticise the audience directly afterwards on Twitter.

In an interview with BBC 6 Music yesterday, Followill apologetically described the events that led up to the band’s actions: “We were on the road and I’d just found out my house had been broken into. On top of that the record was really doing good,” he said.

Caleb Followill went on to describe the show as “my Kurt Cobain moment, when I was hating the success and I was scared and thought people are going to think that we did this on purpose and made this record [‘Only By The Night’] so that it could be big”.

He added: “I wanted to do some interviews and just apologise for my attitude. We took it out on a lot of people. Me in particular, I took it out on audiences [at Reading festival] where we had a big backlash and I took it out on the crowd. At the end of the day it was probably our fault. Because of the success I expected everyone to [cheer] for everything we did."

Kings Of Leon release their new album 'Come Around Sundown' on October 18. Early responses have been mixed, with critics showing understandable apprehension after the hugely successful 2008 release, 'Only By The Night'.
