LA geek-rockers Weezer are finally set to release their long-awaited rarities album ‘Death to False Metal’ on 1st November. The album, which has been in the pipeline for the past couple of years, will be made up of ten previously unreleased songs that were originally meant to be included on the band’s first seven albums. The album will also feature a cover of Toni Braxton’s hit ‘Unbreak My Heart’.
‘Death to False Metal’ will be released through Geffen Records, who were responsible for all of Weezer’s previous albums, from their 1994 self-titled debut through to last year’s ‘Raditude’. The group recently moved to independent label Epitaph Records, with whom they released their eighth album ‘Hurley’ earlier this year.
Frontman Rivers Cuomo said of the album: “Great songs, great recordings, but for some reason they didn’t make the final cut for a record.”
The re-release of Weezer’s second album ‘Pinkerton’ will follow on 8th November as a Deluxe Edition. The band recently announced a number of tour dates in the US, during which they will play their first two albums in full.
An online petition was recently setup that encouraged people to help raise $10,000,000 for Weezer to split. Drummer Patrick Wilson responded by tweeting that they would do the deluxe break-up for $20,000,000. The campaign has since been withdrawn by its creator.
