British soul singer Plan B scooped a record four awards at the UK Video Music Awards on Tuesday night.
Plan B initially broke onto the British music scene with an acoustic-fused rap album, however the hip-hop star (real name Ben Drew) shocked audiences and critics alike when he released his soul-inspired ‘The Defamation of Strickland Banks’ earlier this year.
Plan B, who had been nominated in a record eleven categories at the awards, collected the prize for Best Art Direction in a Video and Best Pop Video for his single ‘Prayin’’, which was released this July. He also collected Best Cinematography in a Video and Best Styling in a Video for ‘Stay Too Long’.
Chicago-based rock band OK GO must also be content with the outcome of their night: the band won Video of the Year and Best Rock Video for ‘This Too Shall Pass’. The band have made something of a habit of being known for their videos: in 2009 their ‘Treadmill Video’ for ‘Here It Goes Again’ became a viral sensation, with over four million online views.
Other winners at the event, held at ODEON West End in Leicester Square include Jay-Z (who won two awards), Lady Gaga, Example and Hot Chip.
British filmmakers Garth Jennings and Nick Goldsmith were also awarded the Icon Award for their contribution to British filmmaking, presented by Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien.
