Jonas Brothers Cancel Mexico Show Amid Fears Of Violence

Teen idols the Jonas Brothers have been forced to cancel a concert in Mexico due to security concerns.

The show was scheduled to take place next Thursday (October 21st) in the Mexican city of Monterrey, but organisers were forced to abandon the performance last minute. Concert promoters Live Nation announced the event was cancelled due to “a series of unfortunate events”, but speculation has identified the town’s notorious drug crimes as one of the principal causes.

Monterrey has long been considered one of Mexico’s wealthiest and safest cities, but over the past few months a wave of violence and drug-related crime has upset residents and officials alike. In the past year over four hundred individuals have died in drug-related killings in the state of Nuevo Leon, where the city is located.

Early reactions to the cancellations have been varied: local fans have shown their understandable disappointment, questioning the necessity of the decision to cancel the show. On a wider scale, however, fans have been quick to comment with their concerns for the welfare of the Disney superstars.

Joe, Nick and Kevin Jonas are still expected to play scheduled concerts in both Guadalajara and Mexico City on 23rd and 24th October. Speaking on their twitter earlier today, the boys said nothing on the cancellation but confirmed their excitement for the rest of the tour: “So excited to see all of our fans in Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and the rest of South America!”
