Plan B Faces Trouble While Filming New Film

Plan B has revealed that he came close to being beaten up during filming for his new movie in East London.

The rapper and soul singer (whose real name is Ben Drew), was on the set of ‘Ill Manors’ when a dramatic incident occurred involving a nearby gang.

“One of our actors accidentally bumped into one of these kids and they just lost it,” Drew declared in an interview. “I was so close to kicking off but I knew I couldn't. I knew it could end up messy. I've had my head kicked in before - a lot of times - so I was ready for it.”

‘Ill Manors’ is the first time in the director’s chair for Plan B. The film is semi-biographical, telling the story of his own troubled upbringing in the East End. The singer is no stranger to the world of film: he starred in Noel Clarke’s ‘Adulthood’ and his recent hit ‘4,3,2,1’. Drew also received four awards at last week’s UK Video Music Awards, which commended his acting in the videos as well as other efforts behind the lens.

‘Ill Manors’, which is currently in post-production stages, includes true stories which the rapper experienced directly as a teenager. Speaking about his experiences, he said: “For years I always thought the worst of what could happen, but through my success I'm slowly becoming an optimistic person. The main character, Aaron, in my film realises at the end that he is trapped in a cycle and leaves his estate.”

When asked about the conditions of East London today, Drew expressed his frustration in the fact that conditions are worse, with more youths involved in gang activities. The singer placed blame on the systems of education and welfare set in place: “A lot of it's down to the parenting and a lot is down to the schools. The schools don't care.”

The film, which also features a soundtrack written by Plan B, is expected for release in Spring 2011.
