After waiting over 15 years for Axl Rose to complete ‘Chinese Democracy’ it appears we may have to wait less than 15 months for the follow up .
One of the most iconic rock bands of modern times, Guns N Roses were also one of the most explosive live acts in the world before they split following the releases of ‘Use Your Illusion I and II’. Seemingly un-concerned Axl put together a new band under the same name and gave endless promises of something better than the previous Guns had ever done.
Probably one of the most drawn out releases in music history, ‘Chinese Democracy’ had its release date delayed again and again until it finally appeared in November 2008 to mostly negative reviews. In the past year the new look Guns N Roses have been touring in support of the album, including stops across the UK. The biggest of those dates was their headline slot at the Reading and Leeds festival in the summer of 2010 where there were numerous problems with the band's performance.
With time-keeping always being a problem for Axl, something often cited as one of the major reasons for the break up of the original band, such problems have again reared their ugly head on the recent UK tour. The band were late on stage at both festival performances which resulted in Axl singing an encore through a microphone at Reading after their power was cut having violated the performance times curfew.
Despite all of this, Guns still remain a big draw and guitarist DJ Ashba insists the next album won’t take as long. Speaking to Artisan News he said, ‘I’m excited to get this one rolling. We’ve been throwing around a bunch of ideas and Axl has a lot of good shit up his sleeve. It won’t take as long as Chinese Democracy, I promise”
I’m not sure it could take any longer if they tried but nothing’s ever straight forward with Axl!
