Rihanna Holds Back Take That From The Top Spot

American R&B superstar Rihanna has managed to keep Take That off the top of the UK singles chart this week. Despite an impressive week of sales, the newly-reformed boyband were unable to reach the top spot as Rihanna held firm for the second consecutive week.

The singer stays at Number One with her new single 'Only Girl (In The World)' keeping Take That’s 'The Flood' in second place.

The outcome was revealed in yesterday’s BBC Radio One chart countdown. However, after a well-received performance on last night’s X factor, where the Take That boys performed together again for the first time in front of an audience of millions, the outcome next week may be very different.

Meanwhile, the Royal British Legion's remarkable poppy appeal single '2 Minute Silence', has broken all preconceptions by arriving in at Number Twenty on the chart, despite featuring no audio whatsoever. The video for the appeal features a contribution from Radiohead's Thom Yorke and Mark Ronson among others.

In terms of album sales, reality shows have again showed their influence as Britain’s Got Talent star Susan Boyle reached Number One. The Scottish singer has earned her second Number One album with 'The Gift', a record of Christmas covers.
