Red Hot Chili Peppers Confirmed For 2011 Rock In Rio - UK Tour Dates Expected Soon!

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are to return to the live stage next year, following the announcement that they have been confirmed to play at 2011's massive Rock in Rio festival in Brazil.

Promoters of the festival, which will have its fourth stint in Brazil next year, have announced that the Chilis will join Metallica and Snow Patrol as headliners, with three other marquee acts to be named soon.

Rock in Rio is a two-weekend bash in sunny Brazil's Rio de Janeiro. 2011's festival will take place over the weekend of September 23rd-25th and September 30th-October 2nd. Tickets are onsale now and are always snapped up quickly due to the sheer size of the festival as well as the usual mind-blowing lineups.

Speaking about confirming a show at next year's festival, Metallica revealed it was strange to start planning for a show that is a year away, however, the group reasoned that Rio is Rio and they are 100% up for it! "We know it's pretty nutty to announce a show almost a year in advance," the band said. "[It's] certainly not something we've ever done before! However, when we were asked to headline the original Rock in Rio, the one actually in Rio de Janeiro, we just couldn't say 'no.' After playing at other Rock in Rio festivals in Lisbon and Madrid years past, it seemed like it would make for a fun break from whatever we might be doing a year from now."

The announcment that the Chili Peppers are returning to the live stage next year fuels speculation that the band are to reveal dates for a massive world tour in 2011. Currently working on the band's 10th studio album, their first following the departure of John Frusciante and arrival of new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to reveal new album and tour details very soon!
