Soul star John Legend took to the stage at the CNN Heroes Concert last night to honour the ‘Heroes of the Year.’ The Concert took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles and was attended by a star-studded audience, including the likes of Renee Zellweger and Gerard Butler.
Legend performed a moving rendition of ‘Wake Up Everybody’, recruiting the help of hip-hop artist Common and Melanie Fiona, who also featured on his latest album, ‘Wake Up!’. The threesome gave an emotional version of the track and were received as the highlight of the evening by many. Also performing at the event were Bon Jovi and country music duo Sugarland.
The star guests of the evening were the Chilean Miners who were trapped underground for almost seventy days. All thirty-three men appeared on stage at the event and received a standing ovation from the audience.
John Legend has been receiving a great amount of critical acclaim for his latest release, ‘Wake Up!’, a collection of soul covers featuring contributions from hip-hop veterans The Roots. A video has recently emerged online of both Legend and The Roots performing a moving rendition of Arcade Fire’s ‘Wake Up’, a song which was initially intended for the album (and borrowed for the title) but eventually dropped.
