Mark Hoppus: ‘Blink 182’s New Album Is Expansive'

Thursday, 16 December 2010 Written by James Conlon

Blink 182 have fuelled the fires of speculation by speaking up about their much-anticipated new album. Speaking in an interview this week, bassist Mark Hoppus said that the trio’s next release will be ‘expansive’, encompassing a sound which will please Blink 182 die-hard fans as well as accommodating space for darker and more progressive material.

Speaking to MTV, Hoppus declared: "We've gone through a lot of really heavy stuff over the past few years. There's plenty of heavy stuff to write about. I think in moments it will [be dark]. We're still just barely getting into the whole writing process. We have about three or four songs done. I wouldn't say it's going to be a dark record; I think it's really an expansive record. There's stuff that sounds like what we were doing on the last Blink record, and there's stuff that sounds like what we were doing 10 years ago and stuff that we've never done before."

He continued: "There's going to be a new record, tours, the whole deal. We're in the studio pounding it out right now, and it's going really good. It's been so great to be back in the studio with Tom and Travis creating a new album. We can't wait to get it out there."

Meanwhile, Blink 182 have been announced as headliners of this year’s Oxegen festival. The announcement, which was made yesterday, confirms that the American pop-punk band will perform at the Irish festival this summer alongside other headliners Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys.

Early bird tickets went on sale yesterday morning for the event which takes place at Punchestown Racecourse on July 7th -10th
