Susan Boyle has beaten off stiff competition to earn the title of highest-selling UK act in overseas markets for 2010. The figures, which were announced recently, confirm that Boyle is the most successful Brit on foreign soil for the second year running.
Boyle’s 2010 release ‘The Gift’ sold 3.7 million copies overseas last year, earning the Christmas Number Two spot in America and reaching Number One in dozens of other countries.
The Scottish ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ star beat Sade, who came second in the list after her ‘Soldier Of Love’ album sold 2.3 million units last year. Mumford and Sons came third with 1.3 overseas sales of ‘Sigh No More’ and Muse came fourth after selling just over one million copies of ‘The Resistance’ last year.
Other key names on the list include Phil Collins with ‘Going Back’, Gorillaz' ‘Plastic Beach’, Florence and the Machine’s ‘Lungs’ and Take That’s ‘Progress’.
Despite topping the list, Boyle failed to make quite the same impression in 2010 as she did the year before. In 2009 her debut album ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ sold over 6 million copies in foreign markets.
